accessibility

La Escocesa is a space inhabited by an artistic community that is not only focused on the creation of works, but also on the common generation of knowledge, networks of care and new ways of building and practicing cultural institutions. During 2022 we have started an internal work process that entails a broad collective exercise of reviewing and deeply changing the ways of doing things. To do this, the team and the community of La Escocesa are developing, together with various agents and collectives, an intersectional protocol that encompasses different lines of work and transformation.

In this section of the website, we focus on the access to La Escocesa, proposing ways to expand it, as an intimate and flexible process in which to get involved, considering that there are multiple possible ways of communicating, moving and relating to each other. We are working on drafting an anti-capacity access protocol, as a way to make the space and activities habitable and enjoyable for more people.

Safe(r) spaces imply collective work. Everyone’s contribution is important to create safer environments so that vulnerablised people do not continue to experience situations of violence.

At La Escocesa we do not tolerate any capacitist, racist, lgtbiqca+phobic ageist or violent attitudes or aggressions. Although it is difficult to know everything that happens around us, we will be attentive and available.

We ask everyone's collaboration so that our spaces and meetings are as safe and accessible as possible. Please pay attention to the following statements:

  • Follow the protocol guidelines and indications from staff and colleagues.
  • If you perceive and/or experience any harmful behavior, please report it to the person responsible for the activity so that they can respond.
  • Don't take up space at other people's expense.
  • Do not assume other people’s gender or forms of communication, moving or relating to others. Always ask first.
  • Attend and respect or ask about contact, distances, use of materials/elements/etc. Be respectful to other people’s boundaries and ask if you are not sure about them.
  • Ask permission to take photos.
  • You can bring any element, object, accessory, etc. that might help you being more comfortable in the space or activity (stimming toy, blankets, cushions, cups or anything else you might need).

La Escocesa is located in an old industrial building that has not yet been renovated, so its physical conditions are quite limiting. For example, quite extreme temperatures in the summer and winter and high levels of humidity, noise, dust and use of chemical products. Only the ground floor is physically accessible. We are aware of the access difficulties that all these conditions generate, and that’s why we are reviewing and improving not only the building but also our use of it and the way we relate with our visitors.

Below you will find an anti-capacitist access form in various formats, which you can send us before visiting or attending any activity at La Escocesa, so that you can communicate any needs or comments you may have. Please check the boxes that refer to your needs to make your participation or visit possible and/or easier.

You can either fill out the online form or send the downloadable version in word or pdf format to produccio@laescocesa.org
