portal fuga

(andrea galano toro and rocío gómez)

Portal Fuga is a collective composed by Andrea Galano Toro and Rocío Gómez and situated at the intersection of research, installation, and performance. Through a poetic, raw, and experimental practice, the collective inhabits uncomfortable spaces as a critical gesture, delving into territories that explore cyclicality, animism, and speculative narratives. It’s work approaches margins and cracks as intimate and fertile spaces for thought and creation.

Andrea and Rocio’s collaboration began in 2023 within the artistic and academic framework of their master’s studies in Barcelona. Both Latin American and originally trained in graphic design, they came together through theoretical affinity and ecofeminist perspectives, questioning the positivist and monopolizing model of the technological field of which they are part. Their work appeals to lo-tek approaches and tentacular, hybrid processes.

Andrea interweaves studies in critical and applied ecology (Organismo Año Uno, TBA21 & Thyssen) with the reappropriation of tools such as the microscope within processes of visual and material experimentation. Rocío complements her studies in gender, herstory, and performative writing with Horrenda, her sculptural project working with clay and stone.

Through their collaborative practice, they explore processes of decomposition and transformation by experimenting with bioplastics, water, soil and organic waste, incorporating technology in its erosive capacity (as seen in the installation Planta Kinética, Symbioceno I and II). Their research t consists in observing what happens to matter when it ceases to be controlled and determines its own destiny.

Together, they have written and presented the paper “Embracing Death Processes: A Humanistic Inquiry into Art, Technology, and HCI” at international conferences (12th edition of xCoAx, Treviso, IT, 2024), developed talks around the same theme (“Festival de Vida al Final de la Vida - Parlem de la Mort”, Barcelona, ES), and created installations that combine electronics, water, and biodegradable materials (“Génesis” - Festival Ex Abrupto, 2025, Moia, ES y “Estados Correlacionados” 2024, Buenos Aires, ARG).
