20h

Heaven is a closed nightclub by Koba Gómez | 73 min | 2024

Benidorm, communism, and the environmental struggle. Through his family’s photographic archive, Koba unveils a vision of political resistance in one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations. Inspired by photographs of the Terra Mítica fire, a quest for memory unfolds, forging a dialogue between the landscape and the traces of real estate speculation.

21:30h

Snacks & drinks by Elena Maravillas.

Koba Gómez (he/she) was born in Benidorm in 1998. After earning a degree in Art from the University of the Basque Country (EHU) in Bilbao, they pursued a master’s degree in Film and Visual Culture Studies at ESCAC. Through an intrinsically queer audiovisual practice, they explore issues such as memory, the ways in which the body holding a camera is present, and the dissociation between sound and image. They are part of the Hamaca archive with their first short film, Lesboterrorismo (2022), which has screened at the Artium Museum, the Cineteca de Madrid, and the Mostra Invertida Festival. Their first feature film, Heaven is a closed nightclub (2024), premiered at the Ecozine Festival in Zaragoza and internationally at FIC Gibara.

Elena Maravillas is a multidisciplinary artist. She is interested in how we relate to and inhabit the world, in ecology, care and interspecies communication.

Activity coordinated by Catarina Botelho, Carlos Vásquez, Marla JacarillaValentina Alvarado Matos and Elena Maravillas.
