Don’t miss this two-session workshop where we’ll work with egyptian paste. Traditionally, Egyptian paste is a non-plastic compound obtained by firing a mixture of silica, alkaline fluxes and copper. This material sits in the middle of glass and ceramic, it is a vitreous paste which can be shaped and used with the same purposes of ceramic.
The course consists in one full day of practice, complemented by a deep theoretical lesson about the history and the chemistry of the material and few hours’ observation of the outcome after the firing. The participants will mix the recipe starting from raw materials and will be guided through the crafting of several little objects.
The workshop is directed at people with or without previous knowledge since Egyptian paste has specific qualities and techniques.
On the first day, we'll take a one-hour break for lunch.
Marta Vino is an apulian ceramicist and artist. She crafts functional objects, mostly made of stoneware or porcelain, shaped at the wheel, decorated with self-produced glazes and fired either in electric or wood kilns. Avoiding any kind of rational synthesis, Marta’s current research thrives on the unconscious processing of images and childhood’s memories - familiar tableware, domestic objects, dear creatures. The figures appearing on ceramic surfaces are revealing intimate meanings (a symbolic dictionary is constantly updated). Ceramics emerges from a plural, recognizable, yet inner mediterrean imaginary, of which they compose a fantastic archeology themselves.
