helena vinent

Helena Vinent is an artist that works in multiple disciplines, which include video, photography, text, sculpture, performance and installation. Dissociation, subtitles, noise, non-sound, technological acceleration, language, construction of truth, error, misunderstandings, body politics, prostheses, alliances and speculative spaces are designations that can serve to define her areas of artistic research. Her work, traversed by the crip-queer discourse, addresses the idea of human, posthuman and infrahuman construction from her perspective as disabled and deaf. Helena’s vision shows a special interest in the production of new imaginaries that subvert the functional norms of human bodies. Through her work, she experiments with the limits of the human and the political consequences of this conception. The experients start from the premise that in an ableist society, such as the one we live in, the body that is assigned as disabled is not read as a complete human body.

Graduated in Applied Sculpture Arts at the Escola Llotja and in Fine Arts at the Universitat de Barcelona, Helena is currently studying for her Master's Degree in Cultural Studies and Visual Arts (feminist perspectives and cuir/queer) at the Miguel Hernández University. She has participated in group and solo shows nationally and internationally, in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Rotterdam, Kassel, Palma, Nancy and Montpellier. She has held artistic residencies at Fabra i Coats and Hangar (Barcelona) and has received several awards and grants, including the Sala d'Art Jove award, the Guasch Coranty grant, the Hangar production grant, the visual arts grant from the Fundació Güell, the Baumannlab production grant, the Creació i Museus grant from ICUB, the Generation 2021 award, the grant for Research and Innovation in the Visual Arts from the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Premis Barcelona 2020 grant and the Miquel Casablancas award. Her work is in the collections of the Fundació Montemadrid, Fundació Guasch Coranty, Fundació Güell, Sant Andreu Contemporani and MACBA.
