yazel parra nahmens

Yazel Parra Nahmens is a Venezuelan performer, researcher, and cultural mediator. She describes herself as a deconstructed actress who became a cultural worker. She pursued Master’s and doctoral studies at UAB on the political and poetic possibilities of contemporary theatre created in marginalized communities and took part in the Independent Studies Programme at MACBA (2023-24), a platform for critical artistic inquiry and collective learning. Her current practice focuses on probing artistic languages rooted in the materiality of the body and everyday life, around eating, work rhythms, and domestic knowledges, seeking to listen to the questions that emerge and how they suggest alternative forms of cultural mediation.

She was a research and exploration resident in gastronomic mediation at Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica (2023-25) within transmedial processes that open contents to the public. She is currently a resident at Espacio Conciencia Afro and Osikán Vivero de Creación e Imaginación Social (Madrid), where she develops the Pidiendo cacao project as part of the Recidencia Afronteriza 2025, a platform for expanded performative practices that explore bodily memory, identity, and situated narratives with and from Afro-descendant and migrant communities.

Her work combines performative exploration with gastronomic and multisensory practices, positioning cooking, voice, and gesture as vectors connecting personal narratives and collective imaginaries. Through hybrid formats such as poetry, singing, and table laboratories, she investigates how food, domestic rituals, and orality are powerful tools of mediation, capable of opening spaces for critical dialogue across disciplines, materials, imaginaries, and bodily experiences.

Yazel Parra Nahmens is a creative resident from 2026 to 2027.
