olive harvest in Arnes

a live archive

Olive harvest in Arnes – a live archive is a live, evolving event that invites listeners into the temporalities of the olive harvest — to share time with us through sound, presence, and the quiet gestures of seasonal work.

The event contains a series of transmissions from the olive field where So is based, near Arnes, Tarragona province, on the edge of Els Ports, and other places involved in the olive harvest and processing.

The transmissions run for 3 days from 27 November to 29 November (36 hours), with specific gathering/meeting times at sunset, when we will be available to connect in the Listening room at radioso.net/listen, and chat/write in the Internet Relay Chat (IRC). There we will create a live programme updated each day.

The transmissions aim to be responsive to what is going on in the field where the olives are picked by hand, the shed where they are stored, the pressing mill and the nearby village. Together these will convey the movement of the olives, the organisation of local life around them, and the rhythms and temporalities they give rise to.

This is also an invitation to the La Escocesa online community to tune into parts of everyday life that are unexpected, and find ways to share unplanned moments, where it is impossible to anticipate what they will and won’t contain.

bio

Associació So is a non-profit association, created in November 2023 and registered in the Catalan Registry of Entities in January 2024. So aims to develop work with sound, ecologies, and transmission, especially in relation to the Ebro River and its watershed, through collaborations in Catalunya and more broadly. So brings together the experiences of the creative/technical network Acoustic Commons, formed as part of the Creative Europe collaborative project: Acoustic Commons (2020–22); members of the Soundcamp cooperative; and the work of the Barcelona-based Iranian artist pantea.

pantea (b. 1992, Tehran) is an artist and writer from Iran whose practice explores how sound translates ecological connection, collaborative survival and the unheard. Her work spans listening, walking, writing, cooking and making – things, relationships and forms of hospitality. She is especially drawn to wetlands, plants, especially the Sundew. She is a member of Khamoosh – a community archiving Iranian sonic heritage through everyday sounds. Her broader work has been performed and exhibited internationally. She is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD in Music at St George’s, University of London. More recently, she has been navigating the slow violence of immigration systems – and thinking through how struggles across different contexts connect.

This project has been accompanied by Ingrid Blanco during its development.

This space belongs to Pantea Armanfar's Alteradio research project, which was one of the three winning projects of the CREA - La Escocesa 2025 Research Grant. It is an ecological community radio project developed at La Escocesa by the Sonido collective, which includes the Soundcamp Cooperative and the artist Pantea. The aim is to create a mobile ecological radio studio using DIY devices and participatory methods. The project explores “flat listening,” where human and non-human voices are valued equally, and integrates themes of restorative justice, sustainability, and artistic activism, especially in solidarity with Palestine.
